US treasury to complete coupon auction w/ sale of 7 year notes at the bottom of the hour
The U.S. Treasury will complete the coupon auctions for the week with the sale of 7 year notes at the bottom of the hour ($44 billion). The auction is a little early ahead of the Thanksgiving day holiday. Despite the early auction, the bond market will remain open for the rest of the trading day.
The auction results will be compared to the 6 month averages of the major components to determine the relative demand for both domestic and international buyers:
- Tail -0.6 basis points
- Bid to cover 2.56X
- Direct buyers (domestic buyers) 23.5%
- Indirect buyers (international buyers) 67.2%
- Dealers (they take the balance) 9.2%
The 2 and 5 year note auctions were met with average demand.

Australia’s consumer inflation accelerates to 3.8% in October, overshooting estimates
The largest contributor to consumer inflation was the housing sector that saw price growth of 5.9%, driven by higher costs in electricity, rents and new dwellings. -
Stocks in the US extend to new highs.
The major US stock indices are trading near highs. Each of the indices are up 0.70% to 0.80% (give or take).
- Dow industrial average +0.70%
- S&P index +0.72%
- NASDAQ index +0.80%
For the trading week:
- Dow industrial average +2.57%
- S&P index up 3.22%
- NASDAQ index up 4.23%
Nvidia is rebounding 1.67% and back above $180 a share. Broadcom is continuing its run to the upside with a gain of 2.52%. AMD which fell sharply yesterday is up 3.04% in trading today. Intel is up 3.07% as well.
Google is taking breather today with a decline of -1.24%. Microsoft is up 1.78%, and Amazon is up 0.61%
The US stock market will close at 4 PM today ahead of the Thanksgiving day holiday. On Friday however, the major indices will close at 1 PM.
